The announcement took so long to arrive that it made fans a little nervous, but Alien: Earth is indeed returning for a second season—and recently announced Peter Dinklage as a cast addition. This was all great news for fans of Noah Hawley’s excellent series, which expands the world of the Alien movies in creative and freaky ways. But now, of course, we want to know: how’s season two coming along, and what’s the plan moving forward?

Hawley isn’t ready to make any big declarations just yet, but he did give a few crumbs to Deadline in a new interview.

“We start [shooting season two] this summer,” he told the trade. “I did a stage walk today past the props and costumes. Things are being built. It’s always exciting to see it.”

Alien: Earth has shifted production from Thailand to Pinewood Studios in the UK, which Hawley called “a better home for us long-term.”

Long-term, you say? “It’s my hope—I have a place that I’m going, but I don’t know how long it will take me to get there,” Hawley teased. “Assuming that the price of execution and the audience stays commensurate, we could go for as long as we want. If we nurture them, these franchises can give back for a very long time.”

As for Dinklage’s role in season two—which Hawley says “expands on the promise of the first” with “more world building”—the showrunner wouldn’t say much, but he did reveal it’s “a major role” within the ensemble. He also promised we’d be hearing more casting news for season two “soon.”
