Ridley Scott Is Producing a New ‘Alien’ Movie

No, it's not the sequel to 'Romulus.'

The last Alien movie to hit the big screen was 2024’s Alien: Romulus, written by Fede Álvarez and Rodo Sayagues and directed by Álvarez. The extent to which Ridley Scott, director of the first Alien film and long considered the steward of the franchise, was involved with Romulus is a little murky. He was a producer on Romulus, and Álvarez told the Los Angeles Times in 2024 that “Ridley was always the person I went to in order to show him where things are and to debate with him and to have his blessing and also his criticism and pushback on some things. It was a creative collaboration where we met in the middle.” In that same article, though, Scott downplayed his feedback, saying, “It is hard work with anybody and their mother giving you advice—the last thing you want at a certain point is advice. … Fede is a surge of energy, and I had to step back and let him do it.”

That might explain why, in August 2026, Scott told French outlet AlloCiné that he thought Alien: Romulus “was OK.”

“I think it needs some help,” Scott continued. “So, I’ve gone back in. I’ve already got a footprint for the next Alien. We did Prometheus, and then Alien: Covenant. So, I’m picking up where we left off in Covenant with Michael Fassbender, who now thinks he’s Ozymandias.”

At that point, the whole project was theoretical; Scott said he had ideas, but there was nothing concrete about it actually happening. But now, according to the Hollywood Reporter, a new Alien movie is indeed in the works. Aaron Guzikowski, who previously worked with Scott on the HBO Max series Raised by Wolves, will write the script. Scott is set to produce, and no director is attached yet.

Notably, this new movie is not the long-rumored sequel to Romulus; it is instead more closely related to Prometheus and Covenant, the last two Alien movies Scott directed, which sounds a lot like what Scott was describing to AlloCiné. THR reports that Fassbender is not yet attached to the film, but it’s hard to imagine him not being involved.

It sounds like Scott has a pretty robust idea of where he wants this new Alien film to go, so we wouldn’t be too surprised if this project moves quickly.
