Altec Lansing isn’t just content to make a wireless AirPlay speaker for OSX and iOS users, so they opted for a different strategy: a universal wi-fi speaker controlled via a proprietary app on iOS, Android, Windows and OS X devices.

The Live 5000 has two three-inch speakers, two silk dome tweeters, and a four-inch sub with a passive radiator, all powered by a tri-amp system. The Gentile convex curve of the speaker was implemented for purposes of audio clarity, preventing sound waves from canceling each other out. Those looking for a versatile wireless speaker can expect to see the Altec Lansing Live 5000 in the summer for $500. [Altec Lansing]
