Amazon debuted its $100 streaming TV box today. It's impressive! It's affordable! And it has a whole bunch of apps. It just doesn't have HBO Go, which is probably the one app that so, so many folks were hoping for. And that could be problematic.
To be fair, just because Fire TV doesn't have HBO Go right now, doesn't mean it'll never get the app. Things can change! But as of right now, there's no sign of HBO Go (or for that matter, Vudu) among the plethora of apps Amazon's TV box offers.
HBO Go, may we remind you, is very popular, thanks to shows like Girls, True Blood, Game of Thrones, and True Detective, which is so popular that demand for the season finale crashed HBO's streaming app last month.
The lack of HBO Go could very well be a deal-breaker for fans of those shows. Why buy a $100 streaming box if it won't stream the shows you want to stream the most? Especially when other, cheaper streaming doodads already have it.
Fire TV still seems like an interesting device, to be sure. But if you're an HBO GO fanatic, you might want to hold off for now.
