Apple Powerbooks Get Minor Update (Still G4)

By

Reading time 1 minute

Apple has finally released updated Powerbooks—and they aren’t G5s. Top-end processor speeds max out at 1.67GHz and include 8x SuperDrives DVD burners. The good news is that all models now come with 512MB of memory standard, although only on SuperDrive models—hopefully that’s going to be typical across the Apple line.

In addition to supporting new, faster Bluetooth 2.0, the new Powerbooks add a ‘scrolling TrackPad,’ which lets you use two fingers instead of one to scroll though web pages (it sounds a lot like SideTrack). Faster hard drives, faster processors, and more ram as standard equipment make these all look like decent choices for someone considering an upgrade, although certainly nothing revolutionary (and they still are using the low-res screens).

Update: Abraham Wile write:

The 15″ PB has the option ($100 extra) of the dual DVI graphics card (128mb) that supports apple’s largest 30″ display and the 17″ PB comes with it as a standard feature.
