Alex Proyas, director of The Crow and Knowing, has just signed on to adapt John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost, which tells the tragic story of how Lucifer fell and got to be the lovable character we know today.

Variety reports:

The project tells the story of the epic war in heaven between archangels Michael and Lucifer, and will be crafted as an action vehicle that will include aerial warfare, possibly shot in 3D.

Stuart Hazeldine developed the primary draft of the screenplay that was originally written by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi. Lawrence Kasdan provided a polish as well as Ryan Condal, who delivered the most recent draft.

Those of you who read the book-length poem – which is quite riveting in parts – know that Lucifer is by far the most interesting character. Which means he’ll probably be played by Nic Cage. There’s also a whole chapter where Milton describes how angels have sex and eat. I predict hot babes in heaven.
