Art Lebedev's Optimus Maximus keyboard, which had individual screens on every key, was an extremely ambitious product that didn't quite justify its high cost. Can the followup Optimus Popularis do better?

The Optimus Popularis will, like its predecessor, have screens on every key. But unlike the Optimus Maximus, which had screens that didn't fill the keys, these keys have "as much screen real estate as possible." Theres also a big, wide widget screen between the function keys and the number keys.

They're planning to ship at the end of this year or beginning of next for "less than $1000," with preorders starting sometime later this year. [Art Lebedev]

it's funny because your all going on about how this is overpriced, does nothing better than any other keyboard, ect. yet I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of you have or want an iphone which the same arguments can be made against that: overpriced, does nothing a phone half the price or from 5 years ago does, but you are more than happy to buy that.

so to sum this is the iphone of keyboards some will 'get it' and others will just think 'oh why any 10quid keyboard does the same'
