Information about Asus's new UMPC, the R50A, is out and about. And, if you like these kind of things, the chunky handheld with a 4.8-inch, 1024 x 600 screen boasts both 3 and 3.5G connectivity. And that's not all:

There's built-in GPS, a TV tuner, a webcam and microphone. No prices or release date yet, but expect to see and hear more at the electronic love-fest that is CES in January next year. [JKK Mobile via Engadget]

DISCUSSION

I agree with Flyboy. This is the beginning of a new breed of connected navigation devices. GPS devices without Internet connectivity are soon to follow the way of the dinosaur. Consumers will soon expect software to be position aware and mobile devices able to support location based services. The ASUS R50A has just won a CES 2008 award probably partly for these reasons.

See [gpstekreviews.com] for some more details on the R50A and where GPS devices are heading.
