If you want to save a chunk of money now while signing your soul away for two years, AT&T will give customers a $100 discount on all tablets if you sign a two-year data contract with them. If you're going to be buying a data contract for your iPad anyway, it's a pretty good deal.

You have to pick one of the following data options for your tablet:

AT&T Mobile Share: $10 to share between 1 GB and 20GB
AT&T DataConnect 250MB: $15 for 250MB
AT&T DataConnect 3GB: $30 for 3GB
AT&T DataConnect 5GB: $50 for 5GB

The $100 subsidy for getting on contract isn't as much as an iPhone 5 or anything but at least it's something. The discount starts Friday, November 9th. Anyone interested? [AT&T]

Signing a contract for a tablet just doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. I guess if you're a road warrior type who absolutely needs the larger screen for business or something, maybe, but otherwise no. I love having the option to buy a month here and there on my 3G iPad, and I love it precisely because I can just buy those sporadic months when I feel like it. On vacations for example. If I'm traveling for business I need a laptop. And if I am not traveling, I can do everything I need around town on my phone and fill in the gaps when I am back home or at the office. It just doesn't seem necessary to have a 3G tablet.
