Netflix has been making some big moves lately, outgrowing its days as a virtual Blockbuster (remember Blockbuster?) to offer some seriously great original programming. Its upcoming launch into the world of comedy will pack some power too — Aziz Ansari’s Buried Alive stand-up special debuts on Netflix November 1st.

While this isn’t the first comedy debut on Netflix (a Mike Birbiglia set premiered on the streaming service last week), it’s the company’s first serious effort at swiping some of the comedy game away from HBO and Comedy Central. Considering the success Netflix has had with original drama, this seems like the logical next step. Buried Alive will be available for $5 download at some point, but if you want to catch it when it premieres, fire up your Netflix on November 1st. [New York Times via The Verge]
