In April, The Living Desert Zoo became home to four baby fennec foxes - three males and one female. The public finally got a glimpse of them this week, when they were featured by The Desert Sun.

Fennec foxes (Vulpes zerda) are native to the Sahara Desert and are typically nocturnal, which makes sense for such a tiny mammal. Being active at night lowers their chances of dying in the jaws of a massive predator. With the possible exception of some abnormally tiny domestic dogs (which are the result of artificial selection), the Fennec fox is the smallest canid species in the world.

If you live in southern California, these foxes are just a short drive away in Palm Desert. Road trip, anyone?
