Thirty Meter Telescope
The Thirty Meter Telescope is named for its ridiculously wide primary mirror, which, as you may have guessed, is nearly 100 feet across. Images from the Thirty Meter Telescope will be more than 12 times sharper than images from Hubble, the veteran space telescope that has begun sputtering in recent years. The Thirty Meter Telescope will study some of the earliest light in the universe, as well as the physics of the early universe, which help astrophysicists better understand dark matter. Protests over the telescope’s location in Hawaii have delayed construction, but the telescope is still expected to be built there.
