It's a MacGyver Christmas in Lithuania where a 42-foot Christmas tree made of plastic bottles and zip ties was unveiled last Sunday. It's good to know where all those Sprite bottles I throw in recycling bin finally end up.

Facing some tough financial decisions, the town of Kaunas, Lithuania enlisted the help of artist Jolanta Smidtiene to create a tree that would be beautiful and more importantly, frugal. Jolanta created a series of half-spheres with plastic bottles and zip ties and fashioned them into a discount tannenbaum. When lit up, the tree is a glorious reminder of how resourceful people can be when faced with obstacles. [Delfi via Laughing Squid]
