Revenge of the Nerds: computers are now the must-have guitar accessory. IK Multimedia’s AmpliTube 2 and Native Instruments’ Guitar Rig 2 are both fully-loaded guitar effects and amp simulation software. Now they pack serious hardware, too, for plugging in your guitar (and other audio I/O) and controlling the software with your feet. The two products rumbled at the AES audio trade show this weekend. Unfortunately for IK, their grape-and-black 80s-retro box (after the jump) was upstaged by Native’s gorgeous silver box and ooped recording a la the classic Boss LoopStation. -P. Kirn
