The horror movie Sinister has been creeping under the radar thus far, but a recent crop of good buzz and excellent word of mouth has our spidey senses tingling. Could this be the first good horror movie of the year? Some folks are calling it the new Insidious, which scared us pretty hard.

Here's the plot — Ethan Hawke finds a bunch of old home movies in his new house that show one terrible murder after the next. And in each movie, something creepy is standing in the background. Naturally, the more Hawke learns about these crimes, the more danger he puts himself in. It's directed by Scott Derrickson of The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and fingers crossed it delivers some scares. Sinister hits theaters on October 12.
