Cowon is all set to make a big splash at CES next week and some details on a few of portable media players expected to be shown off are starting to leak out. First, there's the A3 (pictured here), which we already knew about last year. Now we know that it will come Davinci, a high-performance chip that's supposed to improve video playback in comparison to the A2. Even more impressive is the Q5. This PMP boasts a 5-inch touch screen and is based on Windows CE 5.0. It also supports DMB TV broadcasts (good for Korea, all but useless for everyone else) and HSDPA via an external module. Its pic lies within.

I like Cowon's stuff and how they try to compete with the iPod without getting all up in my grill about it. I look forward to fondling its goods next week.

DISCUSSION

I hope the A3 has more new features than just a new chip, they should've at least added a 4.3" screen as that seems to be the standard nowadays.

I would be excited about the Q5, but I'm going to think twice about getting another Cowon product. After reading nothing but positive things about the A2, I bought one less than 5 months ago. I have since had to RMA three times.

The first time went smoothly and only took a couple of days to fix. The 2nd time (diff problem) took 3 weeks because they couldn't figure out what was wrong. When I got it back, the problem returned so I RMAed again. Now I'm still waiting for them to fix. Total, I've been w/out the player for over 6 weeks counting the times to ship it back and forth.

I'm sure my experience is unique since not many people have had problems with their A2's. I just think that they should just send me a refurbished unit (which they won't do) or something instead of spending weeks of trial and error trying to fix the PMP.
