It's too bad we'll never see this level of engineering in the US. Construction companies would just over-charge for the work, do sub-par work and take 10 times as long to get it done. And a bunch of people would just piss and moan about the environment or the disruption to their community and block any attempt to get anything done.

It reminds me of the improvements to infrastructure I hear recommended for my area that would be a great help but some organization puts a stop to because they're intent on forcing their own agenda on everyone.
