Off Dear and the Headlight’s wonderful debut Small Steps, Heavy Hooves, “It’s Gettin’ Easy” is a great little jam with what might be one of my favorite crescendos ever.
Beyond the slowly climbing piano scale, accompanied by the ever more frantic yelps of the lead singer, “It’s Getting Easy” is one of those great songs that sounds so much more pleasant than its lyrics suggest. It’s a nice little jaunt of a tune, sure, but the lyrics chronicle this sort of insane, progressive self-loathing that builds up into a sort of half-sarcastic, half-deranged proclamation that finally, it’s gettin’ easy.
The band has unfortunately broken up, but Small Steps, Heavy Hooves is still fantastic. If you dig this, check it out.
