Delight in the mythical schadenfreude of monster tragedies

It’s not always easy being a monster. The job market’s poor. No one ever invites you to their parties, and many of life’s small pleasures are barred to you. But the good news is you’re not alone in your misery.

Benjamin Dewey’s “Tragedy Series” illustrates tragic and absurd events — mass tea-finger sprains, vengeful elephant seals, stolen dirigibles — and many focus on monstrous and mythical creatures. But it’s not all tears and terror for these beasties. Occasionally, Dewey grants his subjects a “Sadness Reprieve,” such as when the minotaur takes up the cello or squids try beach volleyball.
