Io9 2025 Spoiler warning

The Midnight Library

Deadline reports Paramount Pictures has acquired the rights to Gareth Davis’s film adaptation of Matt Haig’s novel The Midnight Library for $36,000,000. Starring Florence Pugh, the story follows Nora Seed, “who finds herself in a library between life and death with the chance to experience all the potential lives she could have lived.”

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

In a recent interview with Empire, Marvel’s Kevin Feige stated Brand New Day will be the first MCU Spider-Man film to focus on the character’s “classic elements,” citing his impoverished NYC lifestyle as an example.

It is the first Spider-Man film that we’ve made in the MCU that is focused on the classic elements of Spider-Man. He’s doing the Spidey thing of living in a rather sad, small apartment, listening to the police scanner and going out and using his great power responsibly.

Evil Dead Wrath

Filming has officially wrapped on Francis Galluppi’s Evil Dead Wrath, still currently scheduled for an April 7, 2028 release date.

Onslaught

According to Bloody-Disgusting, Adam Wingard’s Onslaught is scheduled for a September 4, 2026 release date. The film stars Adria Arjona as “a character tasked with taking down an unstoppable force that has escaped from a secret military base.”

28 Years Later, Part III

In a recent interview with JoBlo, Danny Boyle confirmed he plans to film the third 28 Years Later sometime next year.

We ran out of time. Because it’s set in an area of Britain [where] you can only film at certain times of the year. We ran out of time this year—we literally ran out of time… so it’ll be, hopefully, fingers crossed, next year. But there’s the enthusiasm there, and Alex (Garland) has done a wonderful script for it.

Toy Story 5

A new billboard for Toy Story 5 reducing the film’s title to its initials—simply “TS”, in this case, without a “5” to be seen—has fans speculating Taylor Swift will appear on the film’s soundtrack. A Twitter post from Pixar depicting said billboard additionally quotes Swift’s 2014 song, “Shake It Off,” adding credence to the theory.

Scary Movie 6

The latest trailer for Scary Movie 6 acknowledges The Backrooms, though does not comment upon it.

That Texas Blood

Deadline reports a TV series based on That Texas Blood—the Image comic book series by Chris Condon and Jacob Phillips—is now in development at FX. Developed for television by Jim Mickle (Stake Land) and E.L. Katz (Channel Zero), the series, described as a cross between “Cormac McCarthy and John Carpenter,” follows Sheriff Joe Bob Coates of Ambrose County, Texas, “who questions his place in an increasingly violent world when a man returns home following the sudden disappearance of his brother, causing a spiral down into a past filled with treachery and blood.”

Doctor Who

During a recent interview with BBC Radio 2 (via Comic Book), Russell T Davies promised there will be an announcement about the future of Doctor Who in a week or two.

You will get an announcement. There is a press release lumbering through the BBC which, as you know, is like the Jurassic period and 57 people have to sign off on every single word. I promise you in about a week, two weeks, there will be some sort of press release, and yet I can hear the gears slowing down even as I say that. You know this place!

The Institute

According to actor Ben Barnes on Instagram, filming has nearly wrapped on the second season of The Institute.

Vought Rising

Finally, Vought International has released two more “In Memoriam” videos for The Deep and Oh Father.
