The new Dell Axim X30s have been reviewed by PDABuyersGuide, the ones with the new Intel XScale PXA2702 “Mr. Bulverde” processors. All three new models are absolute performance beasts, with even the low-end model, which runs at a seemingly slow 312MHz, tearing up benchmarks set by previous Axims and iPaqs—even those running XScale PXA250s at 400MHz. Not only that, but the Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition PDAs are bargain priced, starting at $199 for the basic model, $249 for a 312MHz version that adds integrated Bluetooth and WiFi, and only $349 for the top-end with the amazing 624MHz processor. There are a couple of downsides, namely some incompatibilities with some older games (probably a symptom of Windows Mobile 2003 SE, and not the PDAs themselves), medium-resolution 320 x 240 QVGA displays (WM2K3 SE supports up to 640 x 480), and fairly wretched battery life, even for a PocketPC. But hey, what do you expect for a PDA that is almost as fast as my last laptop?
