Beauty and the Beast. The Little Mermaid. Finding Nemo. Monsters Inc. Just like The Lion King, Disney is going to ruin even more animated gems from their catalog with 3D. Ugh. If they touch Peter Pan, I'm unloading my imaginary stockpile of molotov cocktails. [Deadline]
While I'll never deny that it was anything other than a ploy to get more money, but I saw the Lion King 3D and I thought it was really good. I mean, the biggest reason it was so good was the movie itself and not at all the 3D, but the 3D in no way ruined the movie. I really think you're blowing this out of proportion.
And while the 3D wasn't as good as a legit 3D movie, for any of the Pixar, 3D-model movies, it'll be better. Because The Lion King was a hand-drawn 2D movie, they had to do the 3D in post-production (and it was still pretty good). When they re-released Toy Story 1 and 2 a few years back in 3D, it was done very well because they could just create a second "camera" and "refilm" the entire movie from the original data. Any of the Pixar movies would be the same.
