About LEGO® Batman™: Legacy of the Dark Knight

A true tribute to Batman fans, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a narrative-driven action-adventure game that invites players to retrace Bruce Wayne’s journey, from his early days to his most iconic battles in the heart of Gotham City. Players will encounter the masked vigilante’s iconic allies, as well as a stellar lineup of DC Comics villains. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is the first game set in the LEGO universe after several years of absence, which explains why it’s so eagerly anticipated by fans of the series and the Caped Crusader.

The storyline of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight draws on various sources. The plot is built around a fusion of the black-caped character’s cinematic adventures—from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy to the recent The Batman—while also drawing elements from cult comics and the animated series Batman: The Animated Series. The TT Games title is packed with well-integrated references that fans will undoubtedly spot, starting with the training at the League of Shadows.

Compared to previous LEGO Batman games, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight marks a clear break from the design of its adventure. In fact, for the very first time, it’s no longer a series of linear levels connected by a hub, but a true, fully explorable open world. So don’t be fooled by the first hour of the adventure—you’ll be navigating an environment even larger than that of Batman: Arkham Knight. Iconic Gotham landmarks dot this immense playground, filled with crimes to solve, challenges to overcome, rewards to earn, and secrets to uncover. And compared to a classic LEGO game, the immersion is tenfold!

Why Should I Download LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight?

TT Games has decided to revamp the formula of its earlier titles to provide a vast map to explore, with combat directly inspired by the highly acclaimed gameplay of Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham series. This new system combines more decisive combat moves, stealth techniques, and even detective skills for analyzing crime scenes. To navigate this open world, Batman wields various gadgets, including his Batarangs, Batclaw, and Batglider. Players can also take the wheel of the famous Batmobile.

In LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, Bruce Wayne isn’t the only playable character. You can also play as other well-known figures from the Gotham universe, such as Alfred, Robin, Jim Gordon, Catwoman, and Batgirl. Each character has unique abilities that keep the gameplay fresh. Robin uses a grappling hook, while Catwoman is never without her whip. Batgirl, meanwhile, is a master of electronic hacking, while Jim Gordon is a pro at wielding a good old-fashioned foam gun. Other playable characters will also arrive with later DLC (like the Joker and Harley Quinn in the Mayhem Collection).

Of course, TT Games has kept the humor of the LEGO games. So you’ll find the same comical scenes, funny dialogue, and completely zany situations. What’s interesting—and why this makes it a family-friendly game—is that the most tragic moments from the movies or comics have been deliberately toned down. There are sequences that will have you laughing out loud, whether because of over-the-top comedic staging or hilarious lines from Gotham City’s NPCs. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight manages to convey powerful messages through humor, and it’s done really well.

In addition to open-world exploration (featuring main missions and side quests, such as the Riddler’s puzzles) and Batman Arkham-style combat sequences (with a system of dodging, parrying, and counterattacks), LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight also includes detective segments. During these sequences, Bruce Wayne activates a special vision that allows him to highlight the most suspicious elements at crime scenes. He can then unlock secret passages, obtain crucial information to continue his progress, or even access new dialogue options.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is an excellent installment for anyone who loves the LEGO series and the masked vigilante. It takes about fifteen hours to complete the adventure (twice that to achieve 100% completion), and one of the game’s pleasant surprises—beyond its production values (graphics, animation, sound, voices)—comes from the Batcave. The Batcave gradually becomes a sort of grand museum paying homage to the DC Comics character. You can customize Batman’s headquarters and enjoy every unlocked item (costumes, vehicles, trophies, etc.).

Is LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Free?

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a paid game and is available in two editions: Standard and Deluxe, with pre-order bonuses and early access. The Deluxe version includes the complete base game as well as the Legacy Collection, which features more than 30 items divided into three themed packs—the Arkham Trilogy Pack, the Batman Beyond Pack, and the Party Music Pack. Each themed pack includes seven costumes (one per playable character), a Batmobile, and a set of five Batcave customization accessories.

The Legacy Collection will be joined on September 18, 2026, by the Mayhem Collection. This collection lets you play as two additional characters: the Joker and Harley Quinn. It also introduces a brand-new mission and a Mayhem Mode. The Mayhem Collection will be included in the Deluxe Pack as well as the upgrade for the Deluxe Pack; all you need to do is download the update.

If you purchased the standard edition of the game but would like to enjoy the DLC included in the Deluxe version, no problem. Simply purchase the Deluxe Edition Upgrade. This version does not include the original game—just the additional packs.

Note that subscribers to PlayStation Plus Premium can download a demo of the game.

What Operating Systems Are Compatible with LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight?

Since its release, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has been available on Windows PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 (since September 18, 2026).  If you are a PlayStation Plus Premium subscriber, you can download a demo of the game.

What Are the Alternatives to LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight?

Considered one of the best LEGO games of all time, LEGO City Undercover is a must-play open-world experience set in the famous world of Danish bricks. In this adventure, players take on the role of Chase McCain, an undercover cop who’s as clumsy as he is effective. You’ll explore an entire city, switching between dozens of disguises (each with different abilities) and enjoying the game’s biting humor. Packed with nods to cult crime films and B-movies, this title remains a must-have if you love the LEGO universe. It’s funny, well-made, and is now available on quite a few platforms—even though it was originally a Wii U exclusive.

If you like LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is still a great alternative. Even though the universe is different—since it’s George Lucas’s—it’s the direct predecessor and marks a significant evolution in the design of LEGO games. The third-person camera is much more dynamic, the combat is smoother, and the storyline covers the entire main saga across nine episodes. With its parodic humor, polished production, and massive amount of content, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a fun game to play.

Batman: Arkham Knight is the gold standard for any open-world Batman game. Rocksteady has created a masterpiece of the superhero genre, featuring a night-time Gotham City of impressive depth, a hand-to-hand combat system, and a narrative brought to life by Mark Hamill as the Joker. Batman: Arkham Knight remains the gold standard, and TT Games makes no secret of the fact that it draws direct inspiration from this game. With a very mature approach—almost visceral at times—Batman: Arkham Knight is a hard-hitting masterpiece that many consider the best Batman video game adaptation ever made.
