PalmOne’s new two new bargain PDAs, the Zire 31 and 72, have been released, and along with the lifting of the NDAs comes the requisite outpouring of reviews. The $149 Zire 31 sports a 160 by 160 color screen, 200MHz ARM-based processor, headphone jack and MP3 player, 16MB of RAM, SD card slot, and runs Palm OS 5.2.8. The general buzz is that it’s a very capable little unit for the price, despite a lackluster screen.
The Zire 72 brings the Zire line up to the edges of the more expensive Tungsten and Treo lines, with its 320 by 320 transflective color screen, 312MHz Intel PXA270 processor, integrated Bluetooth, voice recorder, headphone jack and MP3 player, SD/SDIO slot, 32MB of RAM, and a built-in 1.2-megapixel camera that takes photos and videos. Not bad for a $299 device, especially one that will likely drop in price faster than the top-end Tungstens. All in all, a good day for Palm lovers.
Yes I’m just going to let that one lie.
