If you wish someone a happy birthday on Facebook, and you use that machine gun autofire box in the top right of your news feed to do it, you're half assing it. And now you can give just as little effort to your friends' weddings and engagements.

Facebook's adding weddings and engagements to that little box at the top of your news feed, and it's going to add other big celebrations in the near future. That's prooobably a net positive, even if it makes the events themselves feel more disposable. [Facebook via Verge]

Actually, it probably makes them less disposable since now people actually know when your anniversaries are.

Think deep - whose anniversaries do you know and have you ever done anything with that information? (aside the original date, such as attending the wedding) Have you done much about them? Sure the big ones like 50 years and 25 years get attention, but only because they invite you over to their party again.

How many times in your life have you, on your own, done anything about someone else's anniversary?
