Federal ‘Bureal’ of Investigation: Kash Patel Posts Embarrassing Slop Video About How Much the FBI Loves AI

Is anybody checking this stuff for accuracy over there?

FBI Director Kash Patel is not known as the most competent guy around. And a video he posted to X on Thursday isn’t going to help that reputation.

Patel posted a new video about all the supposedly “cutting-edge technology” the FBI is using to solve crimes. Most of the video is clearly AI-generated, with several shots of disturbing, alien-like people who are supposed to be FBI agents. It has that unnerving plastic sheen that people can immediately recognize as AI slop.

But there’s one shot that may rank as the funniest when you remember that this is supposed to be a video boasting about how the FBI is using advanced AI. Take a look at the screenshot below and see if you can spot it.

Yep. That’s right. The FBI seal that appears on screen at the 18-second mark says Federal “Bureal” of Investigation rather than Bureau.

You can take a look at the video for yourself below.

The misspelling isn’t the only thing that’s embarrassing about the video. You can see a man in a pinstripe suit whose eye is clearly not even focusing on the document in front of him. And you can see at least one person who seems to be lacking all their fingers, a common problem with many AI video generators. There’s also the shot of a photographer who doesn’t appear to have hands at all.

Maybe the best clip in the video is when some FBI agent is frantically rummaging through papers that are coming out of a printer. The papers emerge seemingly printed horizontally as he chaotically shoves them into a binder, each page morphing under his bizarrely formed hands.

It’s not clear which AI tools have been used to create this terrible video, but interestingly, the video clips that are real are of Patel himself. Does he have some bias against being rendered in AI? Seems kinda AI-phobic if you ask us. We thought this administration was all-in on artificial intelligence.

Patel published a video about how, thanks to AI, folks at the FBI are being incredibly innovative, and he wound up proving just how silly it is to rely on AI without checking the output for accuracy. But Patel has never been a stickler for getting it right. After all, this is the guy who loves to get in front of the cameras to hog the spotlight, except when the FBI is unable to find Nancy Guthrie.

The FBI didn’t immediately respond to questions emailed Thursday about the AI video. Gizmodo will update this article when we hear back.
