James Gunn shares a new look at his Mister Miracle cartoon. Diablo Cody talks Jennifer Check’s “sympathetic” portrayal in Jennifer’s Body 2. We have such sights to show you! It’s Morning Spoilers!
D’Orc
Deadline reports Sony has acquired the live-action film rights to D’Orc, the comedic fantasy comic book series from creator Brett Bean. Though no director is currently attached, the story is said to marry “swashbuckling humor with sprawling magical mythology and creatures wrapped in a gritty, action-driven fantasy adventure.”
Mouthwashing
According to a new rumor from insider Daniel Richtman (via Dread Central), a film adaptation of the sci-fi/horror video game Mouthwashing is now in development at Sony Screen Gems. The story follows “five crew members stranded aboard the Tulpar, a wrecked space freighter. With their captain horribly injured and supplies running out, the survivors are left facing starvation, isolation, and each other. Being trapped in space is bad enough. Being trapped with these people is another problem entirely.”
Henry’s Ebb
Variety also reports Kingston Rumi Southwick, Banks Repeta, Ashley Shelton, Will Holland, Rebecca Koon, and Austin Willard are attached to star in Henry’s Ebb, a horror film from director Thomas Mendolia about a boy’s imaginary friend. The story follows Henry, “a boy who flees his troubled home in search of the father he barely remembers, accompanied by Ebb, the imaginary friend Henry created to help him survive a tumultuous childhood. But as their journey leads them through the backroads of the American South, Ebb’s protection becomes increasingly controlling, forcing Henry to question the companion he has always trusted.”
Jennifer’s Body 2
Appearing as a guest on the Petticoat Revolution podcast (via Bloody-Disgusting), Diablo Cody revealed the upcoming sequel to Jennifer’s Body will further explore the character’s loneliness.
Jennifer is a sympathetic character for me, before and after the transformation. I mean, she is very isolated, she’s very lonely, she’s very insecure. Everybody remembers Jennifer when she’s like, ‘I am a god,’ or when she’s at her most radiant and at her most powerful. But people forget about these moments in the movie where she’s like a shell of herself, she’s just exsanguinated almost. And to me, Megan played both of those sides of Jennifer so well.
And one fun thing — I can’t talk about it too much — but you know we’re doing a sequel to this movie, like imminently, and I felt like in the new movie, I was able to explore even more about why Jennifer is sympathetic and what she’s been through. And there is absolutely, to me, a loneliness and a poignancy to that character that people don’t always recognize.
Afterlife With Archie
In conversation with Entertainment Weekly, actor KJ Apa revealed he and his Riverdale co-stars are hopeful they’ll get to make cameos on the Afterlife With Archie TV series.
It’d be cool if we could do some cameos or something. I asked [Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa]! I would think that would be really fun if I could come in for a scene… I don’t know who I’d play, but it’d be fun to do.
