First Look: FujiFilm Z1

If you’re going to go after Sony, you might as well go after their sexiest camera. The new FujiFilm FinePix Z1 is a 5.1-megapixel pocket camera available in a satin black [pictured] and brushed silver (although I wouldn’t be surprised to see other color options if it takes off). It’s thinner than a deck of cards but still has a 3x optical zoom lens (which remains covered by the on/off switch when not in use). It’s clearly a shot right at the DSC-T3, and if it weren’t so good looking (better looking, in fact), I’d probably call it a poseur. Instead, it manages to at least not embarrass itself—I look forward to seeing if its images can match its form factor.

The Z1 shares the new “Real Photo Technology” with its sibling F10 which allows photos to be taken in lower light settings with less noise, something that could be very useful in a camera that gets thrown in a purse or pocket to be taken out and about. It also shares the F10’s lack of optical viewfinder, instead relying on its large LCD in back. Expect to see the Z1 (and accessories, like a docking cradle) in June, with a price of $450.

More pictures (including the silver model) and specs after the jump.
