As Flickr says: "Flickr members upload more than 3,000 images every minute, and yesterday yeoaaron uploaded the five billionth photo." As yeoaaron says: "I am Mr. 5 Billion, and there ain't nothing you can do to stop me."

I don't quite understand the fascination with milestones like this. 5,000,000,000 is a big number, sure, but what is it that makes it any more amazing than 4,328,746,572 or 5,000,123,000? Is it just the nice rounding and human's typical inability to enjoy numbers that are difficult to say or remember?

Don't get me wrong. I love them too. I'm always excited at work when I commit bug fixes and I hit round numbers. It's just odd is all.
