Fractals Make this Simple Nine Piece Puzzle a Nightmare to Solve

The complexity of a puzzle is usually dependent on how many tiny pieces are crammed inside its box. But by introducing mathematical fractals into the design, this plain nine-piece puzzle by Oscar van Deventer looks like a nightmare to solve.

Deventer’s Fractal Jigsaw, available from his website for just shy of $55, is made all the more difficult as the pieces seem to disappear when put in place. So looking at the image on the box, if there even is one, provides absolutely no clues as to where each fractal pattern is supposed to slot in. Puzzles are supposed to be fun, right?
