Galaxy Nexus: The First Ice Cream Sandwich Android Phone Has a Killer 720p Screen (Updated)

It's been a hell of a day for the soon-to-be announced (Galaxy) Nexus (Prime). The thing we're most excited about? The 720p curved screen. But it sounds amazing, all in all.

Starting with the most recent, and best-sounding stuff first. GSM Arena says they have a reliable source inside Google who contacted them and gave them the real specs. Here's the juicy stuff:

According to our source, the device codenamed Nexus Prime is going to ship with Samsung's own chipset, with a blazingly fast dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz. But wait, there's more.

On that chipset will also reside a powerful dual-core GPU from Imagination. We suspect it's going to be the PowerVR SGX543MP2, or in other words, the same GPU found in the iPad 2 (and quite probably on the iPhone 4S as well).

On the back, instead of the 5-megapixel snapper, our source claims, there's an 8-megapixel, full 1080p HD video-shooting camera with some sort of an improved sensor. As for the battery, expect a 2050mAh one (do we hear a whoa?), which should be good for a couple of days use without charging.

The Nexus Prime will also be LTE-enabled, but the most interesting part is that it would probably boast a dual-mode GSM/CDMA radio, just like the Apple iPhone 4S.

For reference, here is the stuff from BGR's leak:

• Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
• 9mm thin
• 4.65-inch 1280 x 720-pixel Super AMOLED HD with curved glass
• TI OMAP 4460 dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2GHz
• 1GB of RAM
• 32GB of built-in storage
• 5-megapixel camera on the back, 1.3-megapixel in the front
• 1080p HD video capture support
• LTE/HSPA depending on carrier
• Wi-Fi a/b/g/n
• NFC
• 1,750 mAh battery

Iiiinteresting. One thing the two leaks agree on is the 4.65-inch, 1280x720 pixel screen, so that's somewhat comforting. We're leaning more toward believing the GSM Arena leak. It just makes more sense. Samsung has never used a TI chip, just NVIDIA, and Qualcomm, and their own. A 5MP camera seemed low for a flagship phone, especially from Samsung, who has spec 'roid-rage. And LTE plus a GSM/CDMA makes infinitely more sense than LTE/HSPA. If these new specs are correct the Galaxy Nexus is even more beastly than we thought. We'll find out the truth on Tuesday the 11th when we'll be liveblogging it, so check back for that.

In the meantime, if you want something to feast your eyes on, yesterday we posted a teaser video from Samsung. At the end of it a light pans across the Galaxy Nexus, which reveals it, but we never see the whole thing all at once. Well, a very clever Reddit user used some photoshop wizardry to make a composite of the image all lit up. It gives us our clearest view of the phone yet... we think. Thanks, Greyhaven7! UPDATE: We've got a new leaked video that shows off Ice Cream Sandwich and it looks legit. Notice there's no dedicated hardware buttons anymore? And how it's curved and looks like a bigger Nexus S? This all lines up with previous rumors. Take with some salt, but it looks good.[Gadget.ro via BGR]
