Thanks to Prime Video’s Boys spinoff Gen V, we already know Asa Germann can play a guy with superpowers. He’ll be shifting that ever so slightly to be a Marvel mutant next, in Jake Schreier’s X-Men movie.
The 2028 release marks the highly anticipated first X-Men standalone film—unless Deadpool & Wolverine counts—now that the characters are part of the MCU, and it’s been slowly building up an impressive cast.
Germann’s casting news comes from the Hollywood Reporter, which notes he’d originally auditioned to play Cyclops. Kit Connor was chosen for that role instead, but “the Kevin Feige-led studio was impressed enough with Germann that they offered him the part of Warren Worthington III, aka Angel,” the trade writes.
“The character, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, was introduced in the very first issue of X-Men back in 1963. Among his attributes are feathered wings on his back, giving him the ability to fly. During one part of his history, Angel was maimed, and his wings were replaced by metal projectile-shooting wings by the villain Apocalypse.”
Germann, who also played a Ghostface victim in Scream 7, joins not just Connor but also Sadie Sink (as Jean Grey, last seen causing trouble for Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day), Christopher Abbott (Professor X), Samara Weaving (Emma Frost), Obsession breakout Inde Navarrette (Rogue), Maya Boyd (Storm), and Adam Driver (Mr. Sinister).
