As an associate editor at Gizmodo, you’ll work closely with the Senior Editor, Consumer Tech to edit and assign in-depth reviews, guides, and news stories. Attention to detail for fact-checking and providing constructive feedback is a must. The ideal candidate should not only be deeply knowledgeable about gadgets but also have a familiarity with the cultural impact they’ve had on society. They should have a demonstrated background in news writing and editing.

- Edit 3-5 in-depth product reviews (1,500 to 2,000 words each depending on the category) and/or guides per week with a sharp eye for accuracy and thoroughness
- Write a few short news stories per week with a focus on a specific consumer tech beat (covering wearables is a plus, but category is flexible)
- Own a weekly themed series/column on a specific product category or topic
- Work closely with a bench of freelance writers to publish product reviews on schedule
- Occasionally edit news stories by staff writers
- Manage the Consumer Tech team when the senior editor is absent
Who You Are
- You have deep experience editing and writing consumer tech stories and strong familiarity with packaging great product reviews and guides with copy and media
- You are a fast, clear, and accurate editor and writer who is familiar with journalistic best practices
- You have a good sense of humor
- You love working in a fast-moving, collaborative environment with a committed team
- You are good at time-management and are comfortable juggling long-term assignments along with quick hits, managing calendars, and staying on top of production workflows
- You have high standards and push yourself and writers to deliver the best stories possible on deadline
