... It’s not great. Bummer!
While the news that Benoist’s take on the Woman of Steel would be part of the next wave of Mattel’s DC Comics Multiverse line of six-inch action figures was great news at first, but newly released images of the figure have dampened that excitement quite a bit. The overall figure is solid, and the costume is well recreated. But man , that face.
That’s... well, it’s Melissa Benoist, after an allergic reaction to kryptonite peanuts. Or it’s Mattel. surprised at the thought of having to sculpt a live-action DC superhero with a smile and wondering what the hell that might actually look like. Either way, it’s not good. Which is a shame, because a Supergirl TV show action figure is a delightful idea!
Supergirl will be available alongside an armored Batman and Carrie Kelley Robin from The Dark Knight Returns comic, and a Doomsday version of Superman, later this year. Each figure comes with a part of a larger Doomsday action figure to create when you’ve bought all of them, but you’ll have to also splash out on a Dark Knight Returns Mutant Leader and, weirdly enough, Bald Jesse Eisenberg from Batman v Superman toy to get every piece as well.
