Scientists have used GPS collars to track the behavior and movements of California’s mountain lions to determine just how closely to human-populated areas they wander. Mountain lions have become a hot topic in California after a cyclist was killed in January of this year. Fortunately, the study has shown that not only do mountain lions tend to venture around residential areas, they also steer clear of domestic livestock when proper fencing and barriers are put in place. Over 700 mountain lions have been killed in the last decade after threatening or harming humans. In a couple of years, the same sort of tracking will be available right inside our phones. For scientific purposes only, of course.
