We are mortal and every step we take brings us one step closer to the grave. We know this because today—September 1st, 2015—is the day that Harry and Ginny Potter (née Weasley) send their first son to Hogwarts to begin his wizard education, according to none other than J.K. Rowling herself.

Yes, if you’re one of the millions of fans who grew up alongside the Boy Who Lived, you are now old enough to have a child the same as Harry when he debuted in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. We know this because of the epilogue in The Deathly Hollows, where Harry and Ginny’s second son, Albus Severus, attends his first day at Hogwarts in 2017; his infinitely better-named brother James Severus is remarked to be two years older than little Albus, meaning he would have attended in 2015. Also there’s this:

You are old and should feel old.

Update: Rowling continues to give us the blow-by-blow of James’ first day at school.
