Just when we thought today’s historic election couldn’t get any weirder, it appears that both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are being protected by an army of dump trucks. Law enforcement say the trucks—which are loaded with sand—are forming a barrier to minimize an attack with explosive devices.
Nerves are understandably frayed on this election day, and security teams aren’t taking any chances. Earlier today, fleets of dump trucks (or sanitation trucks—we’re not entirely sure) filled with sand were stationed outside of several key buildings in Manhattan. The way these trucks were positioned suggest they’re being used as a barricade or a protective barrier in case of a terrorist attack.
Images on social media show a line of dump trucks outside the entrance to the Trump Tower, where Donald Trump is expected to watch the election results. They’re also parked outside the Hilton Hotel on 6th Avenue, which is where Trump is expected to host his election after party. The sand-filled trucks are being used in a similar manner in front of Hillary Clinton’s designated locations, including the Peninsula Hotel the and Javits Center.
Law enforcement told TMZ that the trucks are being used to form a barrier to minimize an attack with explosive devices. As reported in Business Insider, this truck tactic has been used before, including in 1983 when the Reagans were dealing with a bomb scare during Thanksgiving.
So yeah, wow, this is definitely not your normal election.
