Here's How a 70MM Film Projector Works

Beautifully. It works beautifully. If you’re a film nerd or movie buff or just appreciate film in any sort of way, you’ll love this footage of a 70MM film projector showing The Hateful Eight. Andrew Walker, a projectionist, captured this footage of what happens behind the scenes inside the projection room of a movie and to see all the working parts move in a time lapse is so fun.

Walker writes:

I was lucky enough to be one of the projectionists to work on the 70mm roadshow for “The Hateful Eight” and this is what I captured during the 59 showings the film over the course of 15 days. The whole thing was quite an experience and it made me appreciate film all over again. Shot with a Nikon D810 using the Kessler TLS system and a Second Shooter.

Definitely a good call to shoot a film with 95% of its runtime in a dark, static, indoor location in “Glorious 70mm”.

I probably wouldn’t have judged it so harshly if I hadn’t also hated the film, but it’s not the best ambassador for the format in any case.
