A third challenger has appeared in the perennial throwdown between gas and charcoal grilling: Freaking LAVA.

Sculptor Bob Wysocki and geologist Jeff Karson, both with Syracuse University’s Lava Project (previously), teamed up with London-based alt-culinary duo Bompas & Parr to stage a cookout with the molten liquid of an artificial lava flow. The unusual heat source can reach temperatures of 2100°F – plenty hot to roast a couple of ribeyes and some ears of corn.
