Iberia from the ISS

This photograph of the Iberian Peninsula includes city lights in Spain and Portugal, and a faint, thin green glow of our atmosphere. The bright mass of lights in the center is Madrid, the Mediterranean Sea blacks out the southern border; to the west, a haze of lights dances from Lisboa to Porto in the west. Only a thin line of darkness, the Strait of Gibraltar, separates the Iberian Peninsula from Morocco.

I will never grow tired of astronaut-photography. This photograph was captured from the International Space Station, about 400 kilometres up, and was released on March 6, 2014.
