If you have been keeping up with the PDA/mobile market, you’ve probably seen this before. I first remember hearing about this technology a couple years ago – a virtual keyboard is projected onto a flat surface and an infrared sensor will detect the interruption in the laser beam. This would be interpreted as a keystroke. Sounds interesting, right?
Well, unfortunately, it only ever sounded interesting. A company called “iBiz” claimed to be releasing a product like this earlier this year, but that was the last I’d ever heard of it. I’ve never seen this product actually on a shelf (which isn’t a good sign), and information about its availability is lacking.
Adding to the mystery is the Japanese firm “Tanomi,” who last week began accepting orders for the same product. I’m more convinced that this time it’s true, likely because of the demonstration video posted at Impress Watch and the ~$270 price tag.
