It was no secret that Intel was working on a tiny, Pentium M-based PC to compete with the Mac Mini (we talked about it before), but now Wired is reporting that we should expect production or near-production models shortly, built by AOpen. The ‘Intel mini,’ which doesn’t have an official name yet, should be shown off at the Computex trade show in Taiwan, which is running this week.

There are various reasons why this could or could not be a success for Intel, but I think the most interesting thing is that the big chip company thought they needed to compete with the Mac mini at all.
