Apple is taking disaster prep and baking it right into iOS. With the upcoming release of iOS 5, customers in Japan will also get earthquake alerts connected to the country’s early warning system.

Unfortunately, it looks as though it will drain your iOS device’s battery life, so keeping it on constantly would be a no go.
