The future is here but apparently didn’t bring any of the cool shit it promised—no flying cars, no hover boards, no sexbots. But at least we can be thankful that haven’t been screwed out of auto-turrets.

Project Sentry Gun is responsible for bringing this technology to the masses. The site provides details on how to build your own automated sentry that “autonomously tracks, aims, and shoots at targets using a webcam” and a paintball or airsoft gun.

Just add some heat-seeking capabilities and the squirrels will never know what hit them. Or mount one on a telepresence bot and let it patrol your home looking for burglars. On the other hand, some whack job could just as easily hook up a hunting rifle to one for his standoff with the police. [Project Sentry Gun via Boing Boing via Geek]
