Widow’s Bay, creator and showrunner Katie Dippold’s horror-comedy series about a cursed island town off the coast of New England, dominated the 2026 Emmy Awards. It took home a historic 14 trophies, the most ever in a single year for a comedy. It beat the previous record of 13, set in 2025 by The Studio. Six of those trophies were awarded at the primetime ceremony last night, and eight were awarded at the Creative Arts Emmys earlier in the month.
Kate O’Flynn, who plays the lovable but buttoned-up Patricia, kicked off Widow’s Bay‘s hot streak, nabbing the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy trophy early in the ceremony. Stephen Root, who plays local eccentric Wyck, picked up the Supporting Actor trophy, while Dippold took Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and Hiro Murai earned Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. Matthew Rhys won the Lead Actor in a Comedy category for his turn as in-over-his-head mayor Tom Loftis. He beat out Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who was nominated for his role in the late, great Wonder Man, among others.
The biggest award of the night for the series, though, was its win for Outstanding Comedy Series. Widow’s Bay was up against the final seasons of The Bear and Hacks, both previous Emmys darlings, but both walked away empty-handed in that category.
Widow’s Bay wasn’t the only genre show to win last night, though. Pluribus star Rhea Seehorn picked up the Lead Actress in a Drama trophy, ending her disappointing streak of nominations but no wins for Better Call Saul.
Congratulations to all the winners. Hopefully, the Widow’s Bay afterparty turned out a little better than Patricia’s Sunset Cocktails event.
