Itronix has dropped its updated GoBook Q-200 into the “ultra-rugged handheld” channel, a hefty 1.7 pound Windows CE.NET machine powered by a 400MHz Intel XScale. Testing past the normal rugged MilSpec 801F standards, the Q-200 can be dropped, doused, punched, even glared at harshly while still computing right along inside its die-cast magnesium and Xenoy high-impact plastic shell. Another nice feature is Itronix’s proprietary Common Radio Module Architecture, which allows radio options (WiFi/Bluetooth/GPRS) to be switched and upgraded without tossing the whole unit (and without sacrificing the durability), which is a boon for industrial devices that might have a life cycle of five years or more. Units should be available in June for the bargain price of $2,295.
