Nokia announced the newest addition to their Eseries of business phones today, the Nokia E50. Eight reasons it should be on your list:

  1. It's small, and we don't just mean "small for a business phone"—it measures in at 113mm x 43.5 mm x 15.5 mm, for a total of 70 cc, and weighs just 104g with the battery inserted.
  2. It supports popular corporate mobile email packages: Intellisync Wireless Email by Nokia, BlackBerry Connect, Visto Mobile, Altexia, and Microsoft ActiveSync.
  3. It's quad-band (EGSM 850/900/1800/1900), so you can take it on all your overseas business trips (well, except to Japan) and not have to worry.
  4. GPRS/EDGE and it works as a modem, so you can download and upload large files without any problems.
  • Six hours of talk time, a lot for such a little package. And small phones equal small batteries, so you could easily fit both the E50 and a spare battery in your pants pocket with room to spare.</<ol>
  • The ability to use two numbers on the same phone, so if you had one each for work and play before, you can now consolidate and have just the one device.
  • It runs S60 3rd Edition on Symbian OS 9, a stable environment with many third party applications.
  • The 1.3 megapixel camera is an optional feature, so you can have the great smartphone anyway and choose to not have the camera in case your job involves lots of visits to places where they aren't allowed, or if you're one of those people who just don't see the need of having one.

Okay, so the E50 is admittedly the ugliest device to come out of Espoo in a long time, but it is very small and it does get the job done. If you think size and performance are more important than appearance, this might just be the phone for you.
