After six Resident Evil films, Milla Jovovich is no stranger to post-apocalyptic science fiction movies. Usually though, she’s the good guy. In Future World, a new movie co-directed and starring James Franco, she’s going to be the villain.

Deadline reports Jovovich will be playing “a drug lord in a post-apocalyptic world that is plagued with heat, ravaged by disease and crippled by chronic war.” She’s just one character in a film that focuses on a young man who travels the world to try and find the medicine that may or may not exist for his dying mother. There are androids, warlords—everything you’d expect from a movie like this.

Franco helped come up with the story of the film and will co-star in addition to directing. His co-director is Bruce Thierry Cheung, who worked with Franco on several of his smaller films. Though the concept certainly sounds like something a big studio would make, Future World is an independent film. Expect something more sedated and introspective than Mad Max: Fury Road. But that’s a good thing. We need more smart science fiction out there.
