The film adaptation of Randy Queen’s nightmarish comic Darkchylde already has Weta’s special effects shop behind it. And this Halloween, the film’s bringing on the Halloween director himself, John Carpenter.

Darkchylde centers on Ariel Chylde, a girl cursed with nightmares that become very real. When the monsters from her dreams escape into the real world, Ariel must become the creatures from her dreams to save her town.

We showed you Weta’s test footage of one of Ariel’s transformations this summer, and now the producers have announced they’re bringing Carpenter on board. Says Carpenter, “Randy Queen’s hijacked angel, Ariel Chylde, is the best young female character since Laurie Strode in Halloween. Bringing Ariel and her dark mysteries to life should be quite an adventure for us all.”

So does this announcement excite you or make you quiver in fear? Certainly Carpenter is responsible for some amazing works of horror, including The Thing and They Live. But more recent efforts like Vampires and Ghosts of Mars failed to bring the chills.
