As is true with most nascent technologies, you’re going to hit a few bumps along the way. Developing a new gadget has always been a step-by-step process and the LG G Watch is just the latest example.
Complaints have been circulating that the exposed POGO pins on the back of the watch cause skin irritation, corrosive buildup, and charging issues. The culprit is a current that runs through two of the metal pins even when the smartwatch isn’t docked. A new software update, which according to Android Police is coming soon, will simply turn off this current when the G Watch is away from its charging dock, but salt corrosion could still be an issue when charging. We’ll most likely see a relocation or re-imagining of the G Watch’s charging pins in any upcoming refresh.
Although the solution is a simple one, it’s a pretty cool example of a software fix for a hardware and health issue. I bet Fitbit wishes it was only that easy. [Android Police]
